Harshda Bakshi is a Senior Associate at Spice Route Legal and a key member of the firm’s Payments practice.

Harshda works closely with multiple leading players in the payments ecosystem – including payment aggregators, payment orchestrators, cross-border payment service providers, and prepaid instrument (PPI) issuers – on navigating India’s complex regulatory architecture. Her expertise spans the full spectrum of payment infrastructure, from deployment of card-based and wallet solutions to structuring cross-border remittance models and advising on RBI licensing and compliance requirements. Harshda also regularly liaises with the Reserve Bank of India, providing feedback, suggestions, and recommendations on draft regulations impacting the payments ecosystem.

She has been recognised by Legal500 as one of India’s most promising and upcoming lawyers.

Representative matters:

  • Advised the digital business arm of one of India’s largest business conglomerates and its affiliates on structuring a host of innovative financial services products.
  • Advising India’s second-largest financial services conglomerate on a business restructuring to facilitate a forthcoming IPO of its digital finance business.
  • Assisted a prominent payment and B2B e-commerce platform in restructuring its operations in light of a change in regulations with a view to minimising regulatory and legal risks.
  • Advised a Fortune 500 financial services giant on structuring and negotiating outsourcing contracts with a leading American bank holding company and multinational financial services corporation, strategically navigating complex regulatory “suggestions” related to global audits, data isolation, and data localisation mandates.
  • Advising world’s largest multinational technology giant on the launch of a new product that is intended to reduce credit card information hacking, including product review, identifying legal and regulatory risks and potential mitigation, and structuring the product in line with India’s payment data localisation requirements.
