Dr. Sathyan David is a Consultant with Spice Route Legal's Financial Services Regulatory Practice. He is a former Chief General Manager, Department of Banking Supervision, and Chief General Manager, Department of Non-Banking Supervision at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). A veteran central banker, he brings over three decades of experience in banking regulation, supervision, and financial sector policy.

During his distinguished tenure at the RBI, Dr. David held several leadership roles across banking and non-banking financial sector supervision, contributing significantly to the development of India's financial regulatory framework. He is widely recognised for his role in shaping and drafting several of the regulations and policy frameworks that continue to govern financial flows and market conduct in India today.

His experience extends beyond domestic regulation. Dr. David has represented the RBI in international policy forums, including the Financial Stability Board, where he contributed to global discussions on financial stability, regulatory reform, and risk management. This combination of domestic supervisory expertise and international policy exposure provides clients with a unique perspective on navigating complex regulatory environments.

Dr. David regularly works with our FSR team on complex financial services regulatory matters, advising on some of the most sophisticated and complex mandates involving banks, non-banking financial companies, fintechs, payment system participants, and other regulated entities. Leveraging his extensive experience as a regulator and policymaker, he provides strategic guidance on regulatory frameworks, supervisory engagement, licensing, governance, compliance, and risk management, helping clients navigate evolving regulatory expectations and engage effectively with regulators.
